Mexico and other places

Just over halfway through my holiday –overtime to report in! I have hardly had time to breathe, let alone think of workmates. Mexico City is beyond description – so intriguing, busy, crowded, friendly, totally different to any other city, and despite all its bad press I found it to be safe. Organised chaos! So much to see and not enough time to even scratch the surface! I did visit Frida Kahlo’s house, walked the streets of Coyacan, and shopped in the markets. Six weeks wouldn’t give you enough time to see it all!

With Frida and Diego Rivera!

I went out to Teotihuacan and yes, I climbed all the way to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun! Descending was scarier as it is so steep, but there were no falls or broken bones. Strangely I didn’t even suffer any sore muscles!

There were 30 women from 19 different countries for the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD International, most from Latin America, Africa, Europe and the ex-Russian states as well two other Australians and one New Zealander. A very impressive group of women, and one man from India! The program was non-stop with lectures and study group sessions, all held together by an adult education specialist – a stickler for time keeping! The best run course I have ever attended, heated discussion and controversy not withstanding!

With my study group at the course in Cancun!

And now I am in Williamsburg with the needleworkers.

Week 4 Wikis

after a long absence because I couldn't get my head around wikis I have reentered the fray by editing Wikipedia! The advice to look at the entry for my local suburb was very timely. After the recent state by-elections we had a change of local member, but no-one had updated the Wikipedia entry to reflect this change. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denistone,_New_South_Wales

I can think of other stuff to add to this page and may do so now, if and when I have time.

Have also recently gained another example of a wiki in action through the recent Australian Innovative Users' Group meeting when the wiki is being proposed as a way of sharing information between user sites on developing the system.

I found it difficult to gain a real appreciation of what wikis were useful for, when you can only look at examples, but not participate. It's always better to learn by doing.

slnsw2008

Well, I've successfully created a Flickr account and uploaded my photos of the State Library. It's not difficult to do, just a bit time-consuming figuring out the options, and then coming back to edit the captions. Haven't worked out how to add more tags, is that just the cataloguer in me or is it the virgo?

I can see I'll have to explore it a bit more so I can post photos for my dispersed family to share.

Here's my photo of scooters in front of the Mitchell Wing.

African Children's Choir

I've chosen this image as I think it expresses the value of Energy and Teamwork par excellence! I love the colour and movement, and the obvious implication of energy. But not only that, the kids really have to work as a team to produce their performance. And, to top it all off they look as though they're having soo much fun. Perfect! On a good day at work I like to feel that way too.

Week one wobbles

At least I got this far. Greatest fear was not being able to think of a name for the blog. I'm not very smart at thinking up interesting names. So a conversation with my husband sparked this name. Phew!!
